The flower color is orange - 15 x 9 cm (6 x 3 1/2"). Banksia ashbyi forms a rounded shrub to 9'. The large orange flower spikes generally appear in spring and are an excellent cut flower. It is found native in the West Australia coastal areas on sandy soils. The leaves are 200-300 mm long with deeply serrated edges. This species prefers well drained sandy soils, dry summer climate with low humidity. An underlayment of limestone is recommended. Germination is relatively easy from seed.
