Eucalyptus risdonii Risdon peppermint |
Description: A mallee or small tree with bluish, persistent juvenile leaves from Tasmania. The juvenile leaves are at first opposite and stalkless for many pairs, then become ovate and connate (the leaf pair joined around the stem.) Adult leaves are not often developed. It is found only in a very restricted area of Tasmania, may prove to be fairly cold hardy. The foliage has taken on a purplish hue here during our winters and shows damage in Zone 6. This species has also surprised us by setting flower buds when only about two years old and blooming at three years old as above.
